Notes from Our Founder: The Business of Beautiful Spaces
Today we sit down with Victoria, founder of Moffatt Grace Design, to hear her insights on running a busy and fast-growing business across home staging, interior design and product development.
She shares her perspective on building a brand rooted in both creativity and strategy, what she’s learned along the way, and how she continues to evolve her work while staying closely connected to her clients and her design vision.
What inspired you to start your staging and design business?
I saw a clear opportunity to elevate how homes are presented in the real estate market. Many properties weren’t reaching their full potential visually or strategically. I built this business to deliver home staging and interior design that not only looks refined but is also functional.
How would you describe your leadership approach?
My leadership style is collaborative and results-driven. As the business has grown, I’ve focused on building systems and trusting a strong team. That shift has allowed us to scale while maintaining consistency across every design and staging project.
What sets your design and staging style apart?
We focus on neutral palettes, natural materials, balanced layouts, and layered textures. The goal is always the same: create clean, elevated spaces that work with every day life.
Every space is designed with the end user in mind.
What are your favourite pieces from the Moffatt Grace Home Collection?
I feel like the whole collection is made up of my favourite things. I’ve curated the whole collection to fit seamlessly into your home. I love all of the textiles, like our pillows covers and throws and I also love a good scalloped anything (table runner, cutting board, etc.). I’ve truly poured my heart into this collection and I hope that shows when you are shopping it.
Tell me about something special in your home.
One of the most special pieces in my home is a set of my grandmother’s dishes. They’re simple but with a timeless beauty that never fades. I love how they bring a sense of history and style to the table.
What has been most rewarding—and most challenging—about building your business?
The most rewarding part is building a trusted brand and delivering consistent results for clients.
The biggest challenges have come with growth—scaling operations and managing demand. Those experiences have shaped how we approach systems, team structure, and long-term business strategy.
What advice would you give new business owners?
Start small and be flexible. Put systems in place early and stay consistent. Building a successful business comes down to structure, discipline, and long-term focus. And hire a great team that you trust.
What’s it like working with your husband?
Well it’s not always easy or perfect because we are human (haha) but we share the same standards and vision for the business. So while there are sometimes bumps along the way, we know where we want to go and how to get there.
Why is working with local makers so important to you?
Working with local makers allows us to stay connected to our community while collaborating with talented artists, candle makers, woodworkers, and potters whose craft brings depth to our work. I’m really passionate about supporting and expanding the reach of small local businesses with an emphasis on women-led companies.
At the core of it, I genuinely love working across home staging, interior design, and the Moffatt Grace Home Collection. Each part of the business connects back to a shared goal: creating functional and beautiful spaces that feel aligned with how people actually live. What makes it most meaningful are the clients who trust us with their homes and seeing those spaces come to life.
